Chicago (October 13, 2022) 鈥 Hardinge Inc., a multinational machine tool and accessories builder with global headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia, received the 2022 National Metalworking Reshoring Award in recognition of its success in bringing manufacturing back to the United States. The 2022 award was presented on Sept. 16, 2022, at IMTS 鈥 The International Manufacturing 都灵体育直播 Show at McCormick Place in Chicago by Harry Moser, founder and president of the Reshoring Initiative. The award honors companies that have effectively reshored products, parts, or tooling made primarily by metal forming, fabricating, casting, or machining, including additive manufacturing. The award is made possible by the Reshoring Initiative; the Precision Metalforming Association (PMA); AMT 鈥 The Association For Manufacturing 都灵体育直播, which owns and produces IMTS; SME; and the National Tooling and Machining Association (NTMA).

To receive the award on the IMTS+ Main Stage were Hardinge鈥檚 Jeremy Michael, Vice President and General Manager of Turning & Milling, Ryan Ervin, Chief Marketing Officer and Vice President of Sales; David Bassett, Senior Director Continuous Improvement, Quality, Export Compliance; and Chandra Urs, President 鈥 Turning & Milling.

鈥淲e are very proud to be recognized by the Reshoring Initiative and owe a tremendous amount of gratitude to the hundreds of Hardinge employees both in the United States and Taiwan who worked to make this initiative a success over the last two years,鈥 says Michael. 鈥淥ur teams worked late hours with their counterparts overseas to ensure that knowledge and processes were transferred to our facility in Elmira, New York, and these efforts were rewarded as we began to see machine tools rolling off the new lines and out to customers.鈥

Hardinge鈥檚 extensive work bringing back manufacturing production to the United States made theirs a winning case. 鈥淗ardinge shifted the manufacturing of its milling and turning machine center solutions from its Taiwan plant to its plant in Elmira, New York,鈥 Moser says. 鈥淲hat could be more appropriate at IMTS 2022 than for the winner to be a leading AMT member and IMTS exhibitor, which has manufactured machine tools in the United States since the 1890s?鈥

Moser believes that reshoring work done by companies like Hardinge has helped invigorate manufacturing in the United States and recognizing their accomplishments is important, saying, 鈥淭he Reshoring Award has helped accelerate reshoring from 6,000 manufacturing jobs per year in 2010 to 260,000 in 2021.鈥

The 2023 National Metalworking Reshoring Award will be presented at FABTECH in Chicago. OEMs and contract manufacturers are encouraged to apply by June 30, 2023.

The Reshoring Initiative, founded in early 2010, helps manufacturers realize that local production, in some cases, reduces their total cost of ownership of purchased parts and tooling. The Initiative also trains suppliers how to sell against lower priced offshore competitors.

PMA, an inaugural sponsor of the National Reshoring Award, is the full-service trade association representing the North American metalforming industry鈥攖he industry that creates precision metal products using stamping, fabricating, spinning, slide forming and roll forming technologies, and other value-added processes. Its nearly 900 member companies also include suppliers of equipment, materials and services to the industry.

AMT 鈥 The Association For Manufacturing 都灵体育直播 represents U.S. builders and distributors of manufacturing technology 鈥 the advanced machinery, devices and digital equipment that U.S. manufacturing relies on to be productive, innovative, and competitive. AMT acts as the industry鈥檚 voice to speed the pace of innovation, increase global competitiveness and develop manufacturing鈥檚 advanced workforce of tomorrow.

NTMA is the voice for the precision manufacturing and tool and die industries in the United States. Backed by nearly 1,300 member companies, representing more than $30 billion in sales, NTMA provides an array of benefits to members and the industry including advocacy in Washington, training and education programs and networking events nationwide.

SME connects manufacturing professionals, academia and communities, sharing knowledge and resources to build inspired, educated and prosperous manufacturers and enterprises. With nearly 90 years of experience and expertise in events, media, membership, training and development, and also through the SME Education Foundation, SME is committed to promoting manufacturing technology, developing a skilled workforce and attracting future generations to advance manufacturing.

IMTS 鈥 International Manufacturing 都灵体育直播 Show 鈥 The largest and longest-running manufacturing technology trade show in the United States is held every other year at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois. IMTS 2024 will run Sept. 9-14. AMT 鈥 The Association For Manufacturing 都灵体育直播, which owns and produces IMTS,represents and promotes U.S.-based manufacturing technology and its members 鈥 those who design, build, sell, and service the continuously evolving technology that lies at the heart of manufacturing.

FABTECH, North America鈥檚 largest metal forming, fabricating, welding and finishing event, was in McCormick Place September 13-16, 2021. Come to FABTECH 2022 to meet with world-class suppliers, see the latest industry products and developments, find the tools to improve productivity, and increase profits all at FABTECH. We strongly believe in the power of in-person events to discover, educate, and motivate the metal fabrication industry.
